My heat pump failed in January and the repair guy said something uncomfortable
System went down during that cold snap in Minneapolis. Two days of space heaters, $180 in extra electric. Tech came out and said the unit was fine, the problem was my backup strips never kicked on because the thermostat was set up wrong. He said most cold climate installs are configured poorly, not the equipment. Made me wonder if we're overselling heat pumps in northern states. Anyone else dealt with a supposedly cold-weather rated system that couldn't handle the actual winter?
