My neighbor said one thing about my AC that made me rethink my whole summer energy plan
I was chatting with my neighbor Dave over the fence in Phoenix last week, and he mentioned he keeps his thermostat at 78 degrees all summer. I told him I keep mine at 72 because I hate being hot, and he said that every degree lower adds about 3% to your cooling bill. That hit different because I just got my July power bill for $287, and I never connected the dots between my comfort and the carbon coming out of the grid. So I tried bumping my thermostat to 76 for a week and used a fan in my bedroom at night. My bill dropped to $241, and honestly I barely noticed the difference after the first two days. If you're in a hot city like me, what temp do you keep yours at, and have you seen a real drop in your energy use?
