Why does nobody talk about a folder naming rule your future self can actually read
Three years ago I was freelancing out of a spare bedroom in Rochester and I had about 2,000 client files spread across 60 folders with names like "final_v3_NEW" and "stuff2." I opened a project from 2019 one morning and spent 45 minutes just figuring out which PSD was the real one, so I finally sat down and wrote a tiny rule on a sticky note: client initials, then year, then what the file is. That's it. I renamed everything over a weekend, mostly by hand, and it felt dumb and slow at the time. But now when a client from Buffalo emails me about a logo from 2021, I can find it in about 10 seconds. My rule isn't clever, it's just boring and consistent, which turns out to be the whole point. I'm curious what your folder naming rules look like, especially if you work with other people who don't follow them.
