The pressman in Toledo told me to stop messing with the magenta and he was dead right
Two years back I was running small runs of church bulletins and the reds kept coming out pink, so I was bumping the magenta up on every job like an idiot. An old pressman named Ray at a shop off Monroe Street told me to leave the magenta alone and clean the blanket first, said a dirty blanket was dragging color off before it ever hit paper. I ignored him for a month, kept chasing the color curve, and got the same flat pink every time. Finally I pulled the blanket, wiped it down with press wash, and the very next sheet came out the deep red I wanted. Now I want to know, has anyone else had a pressman hand them a fix that sounded too simple to be the real answer?
