Everyone blames RGB files for their color mess, but my client's disaster came from a spot color named PANTONE 185 C
Last month a client sent me packaging art from a Chicago shop where a designer had built the red logo as a spot channel called PANTONE 185 C instead of converting it to CMYK, so when I placed it in InDesign it showed up in my swatches but printed as a muddy brick red on the proof. Everybody in this group wants to point at RGB mode as the villain, but spot colors and Pantone libraries cause just as many surprises, especially when the file gets flattened or the printer's RIP handles the spot channel differently than yours. So my question is, how many of you actually check the Separations Preview or Output panel before sending a file, or do you just trust that the swatch looks close enough on screen?
