Started exporting my client mockups as flat PNGs after a Denver print shop called me out
I used to send clients glossy screenshots of their logo designs straight from Illustrator, all vibrant in RGB on my monitor, and every single one looked like mud once it hit paper. A shop on Broadway here in Denver finally showed me why, my nice bright oranges were coming out brownish and flat because the printer had to guess at CMYK values on the fly with no profile attached. What sold me was when the owner pulled two proof sheets side by side, one from my old PNG export and one from a proper CMYK PDF, and the color difference was so obvious I felt embarrassed. The fish on their logo looked like a completely different animal, one was that bright coral I designed and the other was this sad rusty brown. Now I build every mockup with a CMYK profile baked in and I print a cheap test sheet at a copy shop before anyone signs off on anything. It adds maybe 20 minutes to my process but it has saved me from at least 3 redos where a client would have asked why the shirt or banner looked nothing like the screen. Anyone got a go-to RGB to CMYK profile they trust for stuff meant for fabric versus paper? Because I am still guessing on that part.
