A print shop guy in Tulsa changed how I check blues forever
Back in 2017 I had this banner come back looking purple instead of the navy I saw on screen. The shop owner, Dan, pointed at my monitor and said 'your RGB blue is lying to you, trust the Pantone book even if it looks flat.' He showed me a 10 year old sample stack where every blue shifted once it hit their CMYK press. Has anyone else had a printer teach them something that stuck, or do we all just figure it out through ruined orders?

That your RGB blue is lying to you' still gets me. I mean, you sit there staring at a screen for hours believing what you see, and then some guy in Tulsa just flips a switch in your head. I've had that same thing happen with reds, honestly. One time I approved a bright red for a sign and it came back looking almost brick colored. The printer didn't even blink, just handed me a fan deck and said pick again. That moment changes you. Now I check every single proof against a printed sample, even when it feels like a waste of time. Dan did you a favor. Ruined orders teach you, but a good printer saves you from them.
