Warning: a coolant pump failure on a Friday afternoon turned a 2-hour job into a 12-hour ordeal.

The backup unit was out for calibration, so we had to jury-rig a garden hose from the maintenance closet to keep the spindle cool. Anyone have a good source for reliable replacement pumps that won't bankrupt the shop?

Our old Mazak ran for three years on a rebuilt pump from a local motor shop. They took our core and charged half of new. The trick is finding a shop that actually tests them under load, not just spins them up. That garden hose fix is a classic, but I always worry about mineral buildup in the spindle lines long term.

Man, I used to think those backup units were a waste of money. A Friday like yours would change anyone's mind fast. We've had good luck with the basic pumps from Grainger, they get here quick and haven't let us down yet.

Totally agree about Grainger, their basic pumps saved our butts last summer too.
