Saw a 12 year old debugging at the Boise library and it wrecked me a little
I was at the downtown library here in Boise killing time while my car got new brakes, and this kid at the next table was working through a Python tutorial with a printed cheat sheet. He got a syntax error, stared at it for like 90 seconds, then just started deleting lines until it ran again. Nobody showed him how to read the error message, so he was basically guessing. I almost said something but didn't want to be that random adult hovering over a kid's laptop. How do you all actually teach people to read error messages instead of just deleting stuff until it works?
