My dad's church newsletter has a big contrast problem

My dad helps with his church's monthly newsletter. He chose pale blue text on a cream background. All the other volunteers think it looks gentle and nice. I pointed out that many older members can't read it clearly. They argued it's about style, but I say accessibility comes first.

So wait, they think style is more important than people actually reading the thing? Do they want it to be looked at or to be used?

Watched my friend struggle with a new local cafe website last week. It had fancy moving text and a weird color scheme that looked artsy. She tried to click the menu button for a solid minute because it blended into the background. The owner told her later the designer was going for a "vibe." She got mad because she just wanted to see if they had oat milk. Sometimes the people making the thing care more about the look than someone actually trying to use it. Looks cool but doesn't work if you can't find anything.
