Debate: Should logo colors match the brand's product packaging or the brand's vibe?

I was working on a logo for a local honey company in Portland last month, and the owner kept insisting the colors match the amber shade of their honey jars. But their brand is all about modern minimalism, so I pushed for a crisp teal and white palette that fits their vibe, not the product. Which side do you land on when you hit this conflict in a real project?

Is it weird that I used to be all about matching the product color, but a similar project with a local coffee shop changed my mind completely? Now I'm firmly in the vibe camp.

You ever notice how the same thing happens with music playlists? People used to just shuffle everything, now everyone's curating a specific mood. @gavin_mason31 it's funny how one real world project can flip your whole view on something. I think the color matching thing works for some stuff, like maybe if you're selling a product. But for a coffee shop, you're selling the feeling of being there. That probably gets lost when you're too focused on matching beige to beige.
