Stop picking colors on a white background. I watched a client's site fail a contrast check 9 times because of this.
Last month I built a small site for a bakery in Portland and the whole palette looked great to me on my white canvas. I handed it off and the client called me 3 days later saying older customers couldn't read the menu prices at all. I ran their text through a contrast checker and the combo I loved hit 2.8:1 against the cream background they actually viewed it on. The problem was I never tested the colors on the real background, just my empty design screen. So now I drop every text color on top of its actual bg before I ship anything, and I keep a saved file of test swatches. Has anyone else had a client flag low contrast on colors that looked fine in the mockup?
