Can we talk about how I used to think red and green labels were fine until my dad needed help with his meds
I used to think picking red and green for my charts was no big deal, until last week when my dad asked me to help sort his pill bottles. He has red-green color blindness, and he couldn't tell which pills were the morning ones, because the labels were red and green. I felt terrible, because I had designed those labels for him just a few months ago. After that, I switched all my charts to use blue and orange, and added patterns like dots and stripes for different lines. I also started using a free tool called Color Oracle to check my work before I send it out. My dad said the new labels are way easier to read, which was a big relief. Has anyone else had a family moment that made them rethink their color choices?
Man, I had almost the same thing happen with my uncle and a wiring diagram I made him. He kept flipping breakers wrong because I used red and green to mark the hot lines, and he finally told me he couldn't tell them apart. Adding labels with letters and a few stripes fixed it overnight and honestly made the whole thing clearer for me too.
