My red/green error text was invisible to my own brother and he just nodded along for months
My brother is red-green colorblind and I build forms for a clinic portal, and for about 6 months I used green check marks for valid fields and red for errors (you know, the classic traffic light thing). Last week he was looking over my shoulder at a test page in Denver and asked why the empty fields just had little gray dots next to them. Turns out my red alert text (#e02020 on white) looked almost the same as my dark gray helper text to him, so he'd been guessing which fields were broken the whole time. I swapped to a red error icon with a squiggle underline plus the words "fix this field" and he caught all 3 errors in 5 seconds. Does anyone have a go-to icon set that reads clear without color, or do you just lean on text labels?
