Spent $150 on variant covers last month and realized I never read them
I bought 8 different variant covers for one issue of X-Men thinking they'd be worth something someday. They're sitting in a box under my bed and I cracked open the interior story exactly once. Who else has a stack of variants they wish they could trade back for store credit?

Eight variant covers for a single X-Men issue, I have a very similar story. I grabbed 6 of the 1:25 ratio incentive covers for the 2019 House of X #1 thinking they'd be my retirement fund. I still have them in a mylar bag under my old winter coats, unread and probably worth less than the cover price now. What kills me is that the regular cover was the best one, and I could have just bought that for $4 and spent the rest on a nice cheeseburger. Variant covers are basically just collector tax at this point, and most stores won't even give you half of retail back for them.

Gotta disagree a little bit here @barnes.kai. I think the variant cover game is more about what you like than what it might be worth someday. I pick up variants if the art really speaks to me, not because I think they'll pay my rent later. Your House of X example is a good one though, those 1:25 ratios were super hyped and most of them did tank. But I've had a few surprise me years later when a random artist blows up and their early variants jump. Its still a gamble for sure, and most of them are just pretty decorations for my wall more than investments.
