I use a small slate for all my detailed comms. It just works better for me.

My hand signals usually just mean 'I dropped something'.

Hand signals for dropping stuff are common. I always wave my arms around like a confused traffic cop. It never helps find the lost thing. Mostly just lets everyone know I'm clumsy.
