Tried a 5 minute surface swim before my first bounce at 90 feet, and my air lasted 12 minutes longer
Honestly I always just geared up and dropped straight in, never saw the point of burning air on the surface. Last Tuesday on a pipeline inspection job in the Gulf we had a 90 foot dive and the tender talked me into a quick 5 minute swim around before descending. I figured it was a waste of time but my bottom time went from my usual 38 minutes to almost 50 that day. Turns out a short warm up gets your breathing slow and steady before you hit depth, so you're not sucking air trying to catch up. I tried it again Thursday and got the same result, about 10 to 12 extra minutes each dive. Ngl I felt a bit dumb for skipping it all these years. Anyone else do a surface swim first, or is it just me late to the party?
