Heard a bench tech in Amarillo say "if it boots, it's fixed" and that line has been bugging me for two weeks
Was at a shop in Amarillo helping a buddy swap a dead power supply when one of his techs handed a laptop back to a customer with that line. Unit powered on fine, but the fan was screaming and the drive was throwing SMART errors the whole time I watched him run a quick check. He told me the customer only cares that it turns on, so why burn an extra 40 minutes on diagnostics. I get the time pressure, we all have a stack of tickets, but I've had three machines come back to my bench in the last six months that "worked" for about a week before they died completely, and every one of them had ignored warnings that took two minutes to spot. Now I keep a cheap bootable USB with CrystalDiskInfo and a fan speed check on it, and I run both before anything leaves my table, even on a 15 dollar virus cleanup. The thing is, the guy's not wrong that most people just want their screen back. I'm just not sure where the line is between fast and sloppy. Curious what you all do, do you run a full diag on every machine or just the ones that feel off?
