Saw a concrete bench in a park in Boise that was finished like a birthday cake.
I was walking through Julia Davis Park last weekend and stopped at this new concrete bench. Someone had finished the top with a smooth trowel, but then went wild on the sides with a groover. They made these huge, deep swirls, like thick frosting. The whole thing was painted bright white, so it really did look like a giant bakery mistake. Has anyone else seen a finish that made you do a double take?

Actually, I love that kind of playful detail in public spaces. It gives a plain bench some real personality and makes the park more fun. More cities should take risks like that.
