Twenty two years in and I finally poured my 100th slab last Friday
Started finishing back in 2003 with a borrowed magnesium float and a boss who yelled more than he taught. Last Friday at a job site over in Aurora we poured a 40 by 60 warehouse floor and I did the math on the drive home, that was number 100 for me. Took way longer to get there than I figured when I was 25 and thought I would be running my own crew by 30. The trade has changed a lot since then, most of the old timers I learned from are retired or gone and half the new guys would rather stare at a laser screed than a straightedge. I still keep a worn out wood hand float in the truck from my first year, the handle is duct taped twice and my kid asks why I don't toss it. Anybody else keep count of their pours or is that just a me thing?
