Started tracking crew wait times on a $2.3M job in Tulsa and the numbers did not match what I expected
I started logging every time a crew stood around waiting on materials or another trade during a 14 week build in Tulsa, mostly because the super kept saying delays were minor. After 6 weeks the log showed we were losing about 11 hours a week per crew, way more than the daily reports ever reflected. What surprised me was that the biggest chunk was waiting on inspections, not materials like I assumed. Has anyone found a simple way to get this kind of data in front of the owner without looking like you are pointing fingers at the super?
The "waiting on inspections" part is what gets me because I read a Lean Construction Institute case study a while back where a team tracked similar stuff and found inspections were eating up way more time than anyone guessed. They started doing pre-inspection walks with the inspector before the actual inspection so there were no surprises, and it cut a big chunk of that waiting. For getting it in front of the owner, the trick those guys used was framing it as "here is where the schedule is bleeding" instead of "here is who is screwing up." Just show the hours lost and the fix, not the blame. Owners care about the money and the dates, not who dropped the ball.
