The inspector showed up 40 minutes early and I was still in my truck eating a gas station burrito
I was running a small tenant buildout in Reno and the framing inspection was set for 10am. At 9:20 my phone buzzed with a text saying the inspector was already at the gate. I had a half eaten burrito in one hand and my permit set was still in the truck, so I wiped my hands on my jeans, grabbed the plans, and met him at the door. He looked at my roll of drawings and said nothing for a solid minute while I stood there with hot sauce on my sleeve. Turns out he just wanted to check the shear nailing on the back wall, which was fine. Do you all keep your permit set in the truck or in the site box, because I clearly need a new plan for this.
Did the same thing happen to your buddy or is this just you? My old foreman had a story like this where the inspector caught him mid breakfast taco in the truck, and the guy ended up just signing off after a two minute walk. Since then he keeps a second copy of the plans in a plastic tube behind the seat, plus one in the site box, because you never know when they roll up early. My take is keep the real set in the job box and a beat up extra in the truck, that way if a page gets rained on or covered in hot sauce it is no big deal. It is cheap insurance and saves you from doing the walk of shame with your lunch in one hand.
