TIL a guy at the lumber yard in Fresno told me to stop framing my container window openings with wood
I was picking up 2x4s for my 40ft high cube build and he asked what they were for, and when I said window framing he just shook his head. He said wood swells and moves against steel and in 5 years my corners would be bubbling and cracking. He told me to weld in 2 inch steel angle instead, about $9 a foot, and bolt the window frame right to that. I did it on my last opening and it is rock solid, no flex at all when I push on the frame. Wish I had known this before I framed the first two windows in wood, now I get to redo those. Anyone else learn this the hard way or is wood actually fine if I seal it good?
