A guy at the Denver CSS meetup last month told me my box-shadow art was "just a filter," and it's still bugging me
He looked at my 12-layer pure-CSS sunset on CodePen and said anyone could do it with a blur. Has anyone else run into people who think box-shadow and gradients don't count as real CSS art?
Wait, did he actually open your CodePen and inspect it, or did he just glance at the thumbnail and decide he already knew how it was made? Because that is the part that gets me. Saying "anyone could do it with a blur" is a wild thing to say about a 12-layer shadow stack, since the hard part was never the blur, it was figuring out which layer goes where and how the colors stack without turning into mud. If it were that easy, the meetup would be full of people posting their own sunsets, and it isn't. Maybe it's just me but "it's just a filter" usually means "I don't know how you did that and I don't want to feel bad about not knowing.
