Recalling my first grid layout from a 2017 tutorial blog

Tbh I was clearing out old browser bookmarks last night and found that CSS Tricks article about the Holy Grail layout from like 8 years back. It took me back to when I built my first real grid page for a local restaurant in Austin, and I remember fighting with fr units because I kept thinking they were like flex grow. Now I look at how I set up a menu page last week with subgrid for nested cards and it took maybe 20 minutes. Honestly the funny part is that my old approach used floats and clears before grid even came out, so I appreciate not having to hack negative margins anymore. What was everyone else's first grid project and did you also spend a full day just to realize you forgot gap property? Has anyone else gone back and rebuilt something old just to see how much easier it is now?
