Two columns for everything was my habit until I tried an asymmetric layout

I used to set every card grid to repeat(2, 1fr) without thinking. Looked clean, easy to manage. Then last month I was building a recipe site for my sister's bakery in Portland and she kept saying the cards felt too "boxy." I fought it for a day, then tried a 2fr 1fr split on the featured item and suddenly the whole page had some rhythm. Now I only do equal columns for small utility sections. Has anyone else found that uneven tracks make a layout feel less like a spreadsheet?
