A client in Nashville told me my button looked like it had a nervous breakdown when you hovered it
I had this hover effect where the button slid, changed color, grew a shadow, and rotated 2 degrees all at once, and I thought it looked slick. My client stared at it for a second and asked why the button was having a panic attack every time her mouse got near it. That one line wrecked me because she was right, it was doing way too much for something people just want to click. I went back in and cut the transition down to 120ms with just a background color shift, nothing else. Now when I look at old sites of mine, I can spot the same problem everywhere, buttons that wiggle, cards that flip for no reason, garbage like that. The thing is, I only found it because a real person said it out loud, not because any tutorial ever told me less is more. What is the one hover effect you had to kill because someone finally called it out?
