Switched from saving passwords in my browser to a paper notebook, and I feel kind of silly about it
So for like 3 years I let Chrome remember all my passwords because it was easy and I never thought about it much. Then my cousin who works in IT unplugged my laptop at a family dinner in Columbus and started poking around, and he showed me how every saved login was just sitting there for anyone who grabbed my machine. I switched to a little $8 notebook from Walgreens, I keep it in a drawer at home, and I write down the site and a hint for each password instead of the full thing. The difference is honestly not even close, because now if someone steals my laptop they get nothing, and if someone finds the notebook they still can't get in without the hint meaning something to me. It's slower for sure, and typing a 16 character password from paper gets old, but the browser thing was just one saved file away from handing over my email and bank. The part that got me was when he typed one command and pulled up every site I'd ever logged into, took maybe 10 seconds. Does anyone here still keep passwords in the browser, or did I just get lucky that nothing ever happened?
