A tile showroom demo in Austin flipped my view on large format
I used to think 12x24 tiles were the ONLY way to go for bathrooms, no debate. Last month I walked into a showroom in Austin and the guy had me stand in a mock shower with 2x4 foot slabs. The grout lines almost disappeared and it made the whole space feel like one solid stone piece. I priced out my small master bath redo with those big slabs and it came to about $1,650 more than the smaller tiles. The visual payoff is huge but I worry about the install cost and leveling issues on my old slab floor. Has anyone else made the jump who can tell me if the extra money was worth it? Also, are there special tricks to moving those heavy slabs without cracking them?
