Soffit job went sideways last Tuesday, water got behind the fascia and I had to rip out 12 feet of trim
Was putting up new soffit on a house off Maple Street last Tuesday and hit a soft spot near the gutter. Poked it with my screwdriver and water poured out, turns out the old flashing was never sealed right and rot had been eating the fascia for a while. I had to pull 12 feet of trim and two rafter tails, cost the homeowner about $400 extra in wood he was not expecting. Now I always carry a moisture meter and check every soffit before I quote a job. Anyone got a shortcut for spotting hidden rot before you start tearing things apart?
