Overheard a junior designer say 'AI will replace portfolios' and it bugged me more than it should

I was grabbing coffee near my office in Portland last week and two young designers were talking at the next table. One of them said portfolios are basically dead because everyone will just use AI to generate mockups and clients won't care about process anymore. That got under my skin for some reason. I have been doing this for about 12 years and I think the process is the only thing that actually matters when you talk to a real client. Yeah, AI can spit out 50 variations of a logo in 30 seconds, but it cannot explain why you picked the typeface you did or how you handled that impossible feedback loop with the stakeholder. Has anyone else run into this attitude at their agency or school lately?

My buddy's kid just got hired based on AI mockups alone.

That line about "clients won't care about process" really bothers me too.
