Just realized my color palettes were all wrong because of my monitor

I spent 6 months designing branding kits in Brooklyn and kept getting complaints that my colors looked muddy on clients' screens. Turns out my monitor was set to sRGB instead of DCI-P3 the whole time. A friend at a print shop showed me how to calibrate it with a cheap tool I had never bothered to use. Now my greens and blues actually match what I see on my phone and my prints. Has anyone else dealt with monitor mismatch causing client revisions?

Haha oh man, this hit way too close to home. Had the exact same problem last year with my portfolio site - been fighting with clients about blues looking purple for months until I literally found a dusty calibrator in my drawer. Felt like such a rookie mistake. How long did it take you to figure out the difference?

Wait, did I read that right? You actually had a calibrator just sitting in a drawer for months without knowing it was there? That's a whole different level of frustration, I'd be kicking myself. It took me three weeks of going back and forth with a client over their logo looking more purple than blue on screen before I finally broke down and bought a new calibrator. I ended up having to redo half the site's color scheme because the whole thing was shifted way off. Yours being a dust finder feels like a cruel joke from the universe. I bet the second you plugged that thing in and saw the difference, you wanted to throw it at the wall.
