The museum bench that killed my presentation flow
I spent two hours at the SF MoMA last Saturday watching people sit on those curved oak benches and noticed nobody ever angled their laptop toward the wall, so I tried putting my client deck on a tablet stand there and the sight lines were so bad I scrapped a whole section on furniture ergonomics.

Watched a guy do the exact same thing at the de Young last month and it flipped my whole view on those benches. I always figured the curves were just a design thing, like they look nice and that's it, but seeing him fight with his screen made me get it. The shape pushes you to face out toward the room, so you can never really tuck into a corner and work the way you would at a normal desk or table. Now I look at any public bench and think about where a laptop would actually sit, which I never did before. Did the sight lines get better once you moved to a different spot, or was the whole room just bad for that?
