At a block party, everyone admired my neighbor's new fence until it wobbled.

Sturdy work beats quick compliments every time.

Yeah, that "looked great at the party but started sagging" line from max68 is too real. I built some DIY floating shelves for my living room that got all kinds of compliments when people came over. They held up for about a week before one side slowly started to droop like a sad salute. Now I just appreciate when things don't wobble.

I used to chase after compliments on my work too. Seeing that wobbly fence story really hits home for me. A few years back, I hurried through a deck build just to impress friends. It looked great at the party but started sagging within a month. That mistake taught me to value strong construction over quick praise. What's the worst project you've seen fail after getting early hype?

Remember that viral video of the fancy backyard shed that collapsed under a light snow? It had thousands of likes for its looks online. Nothing beats actually building something right over getting early hype for how it appears.
