Vent: A trip to Habitat for Humanity changed my whole approach to tiling
I was at the ReStore in Portland last Saturday and saw a pallet of mismatched ceramic tiles for $12. I bought them on a whim, thinking I'd just practice cutting. Turns out, mixing six different colors in a checkerboard pattern on my kitchen backsplash looks way better than the boring white I had planned. Has anyone else found better materials at a reuse store than a big box retailer?

Wait, did you really pay $12 for that whole pallet? At my local ReStore, they usually charge by the piece for ceramic tile, not by the pallet. I scored a box of vintage subway tiles there once for $8 but it was only like 30 tiles. Your find sounds like an absolute steal, mixing colors like that is actually a smart way to hide the fact they don't match perfectly, plus it gives it that custom look.

@veraramirez I snagged a whole pallet of mismatched floor tile for fifteen bucks once and it worked out great.
