After finishing a basement, I'm split on corner bead vs. floating for heavy use

Floating looks nice, but beads seem stronger; how do you choose?

Yeah but that's more about bad mud work than the corner type itself... a floating corner done right with good tape and enough coats should hold up fine to door swings. I've seen bead corners fail too if the mud was too thin or they rushed the sanding. Honestly both methods are strong enough for a basement if you take your time and don't skip steps.

Remember my buddy who went full floating corners in his game room basement? Looked amazing for a week, until his teenager swung a door open too hard and put a huge crack right down the seam. Every corner bead job I've seen takes those hits way better. He spent more time fixing dings than using the room. For a basement that'll actually get used, I'd take the stronger finish over the slightly cleaner look any day.

We always pick the pretty option and then act surprised when it breaks.
