Fixed a 2015 MacBook Pro that had a weird screen flicker for months
It was a board-level issue, not the screen. I spent about two weeks on and off looking at it. Finally found a tiny, cracked capacitor near the display connector after reflowing the area. Replaced it with a donor part from an old board and the flicker was gone instantly. Anyone else have a go-to method for finding those super small component failures?

Oh man, that's some next level patience. I'd have given up after the first hour and just started angrily poking the board with a soldering iron. My go-to method is basically squinting at it for five minutes and then ordering a whole new logic board.

Wait, you can just order a whole new logic board? For most stuff I fix, that part alone costs more than the whole device is worth. I spent three nights last month trying to save a ten-year-old receiver because a new board was like two hundred bucks. Sometimes the angry poking is the only cheap option left.
