My big mistake with the wrong kind of paint for brick
I painted my front porch brick with a regular latex paint last spring because it was cheaper... it started peeling and bubbling after about six months. I had to strip it all off and redo it with a proper mineral-based paint, which cost me over $300 extra in materials and a whole weekend of work. Has anyone else had this happen? What paint do you use on old brick now?

Oh man, that's a rough lesson to learn the hard way. I did something similar on a cinder block wall in my garage, used the leftover interior paint from my living room. It looked okay for a few months, then it just turned into this flaky, chalky mess. I felt like an idiot scraping it all off. Now I won't touch masonry with anything but that breathable stuff, even if it costs more. That extra money up front is way cheaper than doing the job twice.

Ugh, paint problems are the worst. My neighbor tried to paint his old concrete patio floor with regular deck paint last year. It looked slick for a minute, then it just turned into a weird, sticky film that never really dried right. He ended up with leaves and dirt stuck to it permanently. Had to rent a power washer and blast the whole thing off.
