Hot take: I stopped using those cheap glue-on shoes after a 3-month trial in Kentucky

Back in February I put a set of budget glue-ons on a client's gelding to save them money. Fast forward to last week and those shoes were barely holding on, hoof wall was chipped and the glue was peeling off in chunks. Switched back to a mid-range brand and after just two weeks the difference in adhesion and hoof health is night and day. Has anyone else had better luck with a specific glue-on brand that doesn't break the bank?

Switched to a brand called EasyCare a while back for some trail horses I manage and they held up way better than I expected... still had to replace them after a couple months but the hooves looked fine when I pulled them off. The cheap ones left this nasty residue that took forever to scrape clean too.

Tbh the clean hooves thing is what really gets my attention. That residue from cheap boots is just nasty, I've spent way too much time scrubbing it off before. How did the EasyCares hold up on rocky terrain though? That's always been my biggest headache with boots, they either wear out fast or slip around too much. The couple months you got out of them sounds decent but I'm wondering if they keep their grip after a few wet days on the trail.

Used to be real skeptical of EasyCare myself. Always figured the name was just a marketing gimmick and the cheap boots were basically the same. But seeing guys like you actually pull them off and find clean hooves underneath changes my whole view on it. That residue problem is exactly what bugs me about the budget brands, such a pain to scrub off every time. Sounds like EasyCare is actually doing the basics right where it counts. Might have to give them a shot on my next set.
