Got all excited about a weird rock I found, but it was just slag from an old furnace

My geology club still won't let me live down the time I brought in 'alien material' that was actually man-made waste.

Honestly seen folks get just as pumped over plain quartz thinking they struck diamonds. Tbh my cousin once dragged home a "meteorite" that was just a clump of asphalt from a road crew.

@the_anthony your cousin and the asphalt meteorite is kind of amazing, like a new level of wishful thinking. Reminds me of the time I got super excited over some mica in a rock, fully convinced it was silver. Guess we all want to find treasure so bad we see what we want to see. Makes you wonder how many "diamonds" are just shiny rocks in a drawer somewhere.
