Asking your audience is basically the digital version of laying out shelf pieces on the floor. Looks like a smart plan until you realize half your boards are warped and you're missing brackets. My favorite is when they ask for something simple, then you build it, and the next comment is "cool but can it also do my taxes." People have no idea what they actually want until they see the messy first try.

Yeah, that moment of seeing it from a different angle can save everything. I was building a shelf and kept messing up the measurements... then I just laid all the pieces on the floor first. Seeing it flat made the whole assembly click. Totally redid my plan from there and it actually worked.
