Got into a 3-hour debate at a diner about whether pigeons are government drones

Came across a guy at a truck stop outside of Tulsa who swore the pigeons following him were FBI surveillance... even showed me a photo of one sitting on a power line and said "see how it's facing south? that's the coordination pattern." I told him I once watched a pigeon walk into a glass door and he just shook his head real slow and said "that's the cover, man, that's the cover.

My neighbor June changed how I think about sourdough starter

Man oh man, that story about June sounds just like what my buddy down the street went through. He was the same way, bought a whole setup with proofing mats and a heating pad, driving himself crazy over the temperature. Then his grandma visited from Alabama and showed him her starter that's been in her fridge since like 1992, fed maybe twice a month with leftover flour. She pulled it out and made a loaf that made his jaw drop. It really made me wonder if we overthink this whole thing just because we read too much online.

Three years ago I built a full site using only floats, felt like a hero until I saw what Grid could do last month.

Floats worked fine for a while but the maintenance was a nightmare. I rebuilt a portfolio site from three years back and cut the CSS by almost half. Grid handles the responsive breakpoints way cleaner too, no more clearing floats and guessing column widths. You can just define the template areas and let the browser figure it out. The time savings add up fast when you stop fighting the layout and let Grid do the heavy lifting.

PSA: We switched from a flat monthly retainer to a project-based fee for a big client in Tampa...

Hold on, you're trading a steady paycheck for a one time deal? That sounds risky. What happens when that project ends and you have a big gap before the next one starts? Retainers keep the lights on, even during slow months. With a fixed fee, you can easily underbid and end up doing way more work than you planned for free. The client might be happy now, but your bank account won't be later.
