inTIL most alarm panels have a hidden master code that resets everything
Yeah that saved my ass on a Vista panel last month when the homeowner forgot their code completely.

inJust realized how much a single hour of downtime can cost a shop
That's the real hack right there, having the parts guy stage everything the night before changes the whole game for the morning. I've seen shops where the parts guy just tosses stuff on a cart with the work order number and it saves at least 20 minutes of walking around hunting for shit. Plus it gives you time to catch backordered parts instead of finding out at 7am when the customer is already pulling in. The morning scramble is a morale killer for sure, that one change alone kept my guys from quitting.

inVisited the new art museum in Denver and their exhibit labels gave me a portfolio idea
Three sketches and a half-finished color study got me my biggest client last year. Rough work sells better than polish sometimes.

inReplaced a panel battery last month that was only 8 months old...
The Powersonic 12v 7ah I pulled out last month was only 6 months old and showed 12.8v resting, but under a 1 amp load it dropped to 2.1 amps in less than 30 seconds. I've started keeping a cheap load tester hooked up to every new battery for the first 24 hours before I even install it. Had a Universal Power Group 12v 9ah last year that tested fine on my meter but failed after two weeks of trickle charging. Now I just assume every new battery is defective until I prove it's not, saves me the return trips.

inCan we talk about how we used to gatekeep comic shops?
Find a shop that wants your money, not a resume. That's the golden rule. If the clerk starts testing you, just say "I'm new, recommend something good." Real shops will hand you a stack of trades and let you browse. The gatekeepers are dying out. Most places now just want people reading. Walk out if they give you attitude.
