Picked waterborne over solvent for a Lexus repair last month - still dealing with the fallout

Did you check your air dryer BEFORE adding that humidifier?

The difference a new derailleur hanger made on my shop bike

And the thing about 2mm is it's just enough to drive you absolutely crazy chasing ghosts in the shifting. I once spent a whole weekend swapping out everything but the frame before I finally busted out the alignment gauge (which I'd had the whole time, buried in a drawer).

Tried both Claude and GPT-4 for drafting my newsletter and Claude was way better at getting my tone right without edits

Personal favorites" is a strong way to put it, daniel. But it does make me wonder - what exactly happened that made you say that? Like, was it something small that just felt weird, or did the robot flat-out refuse to listen to someone and then do the same thing for the next person? Because I've seen this kind of thing come down to bad training data more often than actual favoritism, but your mileage may vary if it's a newer system. I'm genuinely curious what the specific situation was.

Kone versus Otis on the same job last Tuesday, which unit actually delivered?

That's a solid point, Barbara. I've seen that same pattern play out on retrofit jobs in older buildings before. The Otis Gen2 seems great on paper with its belt design, but once you get the cab loaded and running, those resonance issues start showing up bad. Kone's MonoSpace just has a more predictable ride quality across different weight loads, especially in buildings where the rails aren't brand new. Your mileage may vary based on how well the guide rails are aligned, but my experience leans Kone for anything over 10 floors.

Overheard a guy at the scrap yard in Tacoma say 'a real smith never buys new steel', and I've been stewing on that all day.

Honestly, I used to think a quick trip to Home Depot fixed everything too. But seeing how that barber and scrap yard guys fix old stuff instead of buying new really made me pause. Now I'm wondering if the real skill is knowing when not to run to the store.
