Visited the new library in Springfield and their dark mode kiosk hurt my eyes

Holy hell, they actually used pure white text on a black screen in a public place? That's just asking for eye strain lawsuits or something. I can't believe nobody on their design team stopped and thought maybe that's a bad idea for something people stare at under fluorescent lights. Whoever okayed that needs to have their eyes checked. It's not like it's hard to find a middle ground either - just use a light gray on dark gray and call it a day. Public kiosks are completely different from your phone because you can't tilt the screen away or adjust the brightness yourself. They really dropped the ball on that one.

Got a wakeup call about swing clearance on a job in Baton Rouge

Hold on a minute. Tight swings are the whole point on certain ground conditions. On the Atchafalaya a few years back, we had to run the ladder practically kissing the previous cut just to keep the dredge from sliding sideways into the bank. Slower production beats losing the whole day to repositioning, every time.

My $7 chicken disaster in Austin back in 2019

Respectfully @the_aaron, three day old chicken thighs that were stored properly are totally fine to eat in most cases. Food safety rules are important, but tossing perfectly good meat just because of an arbitrary time limit is a waste of money and food. Rice and beans work in a pinch, but that's not really the same as a proper meal with protein.

Tried a power stretcher with a shorter handle and got better results on a tight hallway job

It's funny how one perfect tool can make you rethink everything you thought you knew about the job. Kinda like when you finally get a sharp knife and realize you've been making cooking way harder than it had to be.

Just found out a huge number of people skip book club picks they think they won't like

Ask your group if they're open to a re-read discussion, @veraramirez. Some of my best talks came from revisiting a book after a few years. Picking something everyone already knows means you skip the "what even happened" confusion and get straight to the deeper stuff, like why a certain character annoyed you more this time. Just set a rule that nobody rereads it in the week before the meeting so it stays fresh.
