Question about a weird floor I saw at the airport in Phoenix

Honestly it's just vinyl plank, not a museum piece. Those big airport jobs use commercial grade stuff with attached padding, and they glue it down over perfect concrete. It's not magic, it's just a ton of prep work and expensive materials. You could get the same look at home if you spent crazy money and hired the best crew. People get way too impressed by basic good work.

We almost wrecked a 2,000-year-old Roman floor in Pompeii because my boss said 'just brush it off'

Glad you trusted your gut and stopped them, that's a nightmare scenario. I can't believe someone would even think to use a stiff broom, that's like @robinl90's power-wash story all over again. The pressure to just follow orders on site must be huge, but you saved a piece of history.

Question about using old car seatbelt webbing in a jacket

Oh man, that's such a cool find! For fraying, I'd try a thin line of clear fabric glue along the cut edges, let it dry fully before you sew. It soaks in and sort of seals it without making the webbing too stiff. You could also try a hot knife if you have one, melts the synthetic fibers to lock them in place. That texture sounds perfect for a jacket collar or those epaulet straps on the shoulders.

After that 2018 retrofit at the Grandview Mall, I stopped trusting the factory default brake settings on every job.

Sounds a bit over the top.

Update: That 'quick' moisture barrier delay turned into a month-long headache

Yeah, that line about trying to save a day costing you a month really hits home. It's so frustrating when you know the right process but get pushed to cut corners. I've been there, letting a client's panic become my problem (and then it definitely becomes my problem later). You're totally right to tell your crew to stick to the times, no matter what. The prep work always tells the tale for the whole job. Solid lesson, even if it was a rough way to learn it.
