Just realized my AI image generator made a weird mistake with hands

I asked for a picture of a person holding a coffee cup, but the model gave them six fingers. Some say these flaws show the tech isn't ready, while others think it's just a small bug in a fast-moving field. What's your take on these kinds of AI errors?

I read somewhere that these generators basically learn from thousands of images but still struggle with complex anatomy like hands because there's so much variation in how they move and pose. @nina_harris you're right, getting super specific in the prompt is usually the fix, but it's wild how you have to spell out simple stuff like "two normal hands" just to avoid a melted candle situation.

Honestly those weird hand mistakes happen all the time with AI art. Tried making a birthday card for my nephew last month and the character had three arms. It's a known weak spot because hands are so complex. The tech is learning from tons of pictures but still guesses wrong sometimes. I just tweaked the prompt to say "person holding a mug with two normal hands" and it worked the second time. Do you find some prompts work better than others?

My buddy Dave tried to use one of those generators for his D&D character. He asked for a wizard casting a spell with a glowing orb. The picture came back with a hand that looked like a melted candle with eight knuckles. We laughed about it for a solid hour. It seems like the AI just gets overwhelmed by all the small bones and joints in a hand. He had to get really specific, like "left hand with five fingers palm up," to fix it. Those mistakes are funny now, but they show there's still a lot of guesswork happening under the hood.
