My old grammar checker broke the whole workflow, but it taught me something
So I've been using the same style checker for like 8 years. It was clunky but I trusted it. Last week it flagged a whole paragraph as passive voice and I spent an hour rewriting it. Turns out the paragraph was about a legal process, actually had to stay passive. I showed my coworker and she laughed, said the tool hasn't been updated since 2019. Checked the changelog, she was right. Switched to a newer AI proofreader last Tuesday, it caught real context issues. But now I'm wondering, how many old tools are we all using just because they're familiar? Has anyone else had a favorite tool age out on them and you only found out after it messed something up? What did you swap it for?
