inJust realized I was using auto layout wrong for 6 months
Did you find any of your old manual layouts breaking after you switched to auto layout?

inVent: That talk with a framebuilder made me question my torque wrench habits
@elliotburns I get what you're saying about consistency and engineering specs, but that point about the crappy wrenches has me wondering. If someone uses a beam style torque wrench that's been dropped a few times or a cheap click style that's never been calibrated, is the number on the side actually more reliable than a careful hand? Like are we really trusting the manufacturing tolerances on a $40 tool over someone who's felt carbon give way before? Not trying to be a contrarian here, just genuinely curious where the line is.

inFound an old sketchbook from 2012 and compared it to my current stuff
Did you read that essay by James Gurney about how beginners sometimes have better instinct for composition because they don't overthink it? @reese551 that looseness thing makes me wonder if we trade some spontaneity for polish as we get better. I've seen a few artists talk about purposely blocking in shapes with big brushes first to trick themselves back into that mindset.

inThe neighbor who told me solar panels ruin neighborhoods
You ever notice how some people just hate change no matter what? I had a similar thing with my uncle when I got a heat pump. He kept saying it looked like a giant air conditioner stuck to the house. But really it just comes down to people being scared of new stuff and they think their old way is the only way. Funny thing is Bob probably spends way more on his electricity every month than you do now but he still won't admit solar makes sense. It's like when everyone said cell phones were ugly and pointless back in the 90s. Now nobody leaves home without one. Give it a few years and Bob will probably be complaining he didn't get panels sooner once he sees all the neighbors saving money.

inJust realized my morning routine hack actually stuck for 3 months straight
You mentioned the guilt of skipping it when you don't feel like it... but does that guilt actually ever hit harder on the days you really didn't want to go vs. the days you just changed your mind? Like, is it more about the streak itself or about knowing you actually wanted the rest that morning?
