Rant: I always thought those quick-drying sealants were a gimmick

I was working on a Cessna 172's wing root last week and the old guy in the next hangar said, 'That stuff needs a full day to cure, you'll be here all night.' He handed me a tube of Pro-Seal PR-1422 B2, said it sets in an hour. I was sure it wouldn't hold. Tried it on a small patch, and sure enough, it was rock solid and passed the leak check in 70 minutes flat. Has anyone else had a good run with the fast-set stuff on actual airframe repairs?

People forget the fast stuff often needs perfect surface prep to work right. That old guy probably knew the exact cleaning steps to make it stick. His advice was the real shortcut, not the product itself.

That "rock solid in 70 minutes" thing is a classic case of old hands knowing which shortcuts actually work.
